I use a mixture of analog and digital media to accomplish these pieces, but they are heavily weighted towards analog. Because I prefer the look of film capture to digital, all my images start on film.
The differences I see between digital and analog capture: Digital cameras capture detail in the shadow areas of a scene that film cameras don’t. Additionally, because film is real stuff, flaws can occur, unpredictable glitches or missing bits that result from errors of manufacture, from improper capture, or from sloppy processing. To me, these are welcome and wanted.
My latest series of photos are presented in domed glass frames. It’s been easier for me to build images digitally to fit the particular contours of a frame than it has been to accomplish this in the darkroom, however I do still use the darkroom and especially enjoy the opportunity to exploit the chemicals and light to achieve effects that I can only achieve using these methods.
